Basque Health Cluster (BHC), certified as Innovative Business Association (AEI) in December 2023, has been selected to carry out an innovative project in the field of artificial intelligence applied to health.

TerminAI: Investigation of the potential of AI and its ability to optimize the management, coding and harmonization of health data, is the proposal submitted by BHC to the call for proposals of the 2024 Innovative Clusters Support Program by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism.

To improve efficiency and accuracy in the coding of clinical information, TerminAI implements an artificial intelligence-assisted system. Using advanced natural language processing and machine learning technologies, the system will analyze, understand and contextualize clinical data.

AI will be able to identify patterns, relationships and concepts within the data by mapping them to standard healthcare data terminology.

Similarly, the project also aims to apply bioinformatics tools and other digital processing and incremental learning technologies for the integration of genetic data for better diagnosis and disease prevention.

In addition to automated coding, TerminAI is looking to digitize informed consents. This advance will allow patients to access them more quickly while reducing errors arising from the interpretation of handwriting.

Finally, the project will seek to integrate the coding system with existing health data spaces, which will allow data to be exchanged securely and efficiently, while complying with legal requirements at the European level.

This commitment to innovation in healthcare, applying cutting-edge technologies to transform clinical data management, will serve to advance the quality, efficiency and accuracy of healthcare systems. This will lead to more accessible and safer care for patients.

The TerminAI project is led by BHC and has the collaboration of companies such as NorayBio, BIOLAN, Vicomtech, EProcessMed or AseBio, as well as Devol itself. It is financed by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, AIE Cluster and Next Generation EU funds.
